Hidden Palms May 16, 2007

Yesterday a group of us from the Plein Air Artists of Riverside, met to paint at the Botanical Gardens on the grounds of the University of Riverside. Pat and I walked through the gardens trying to decide where to paint. The roses were in full bloom as were the day lilies. Unfortunately to get there we would have to pull all our equipment up a steap hill and I just didn't have the energy. When walking back to our set up we spotted these gorgeous palms hidden in the cactus garden. The way the light was hitting them was so beautiful. The hard part was trying to bring them out and separate them from the rest of the garden. This is why I decided to call the painting Hidden Palms. Enjoy, Terry

Art in the Park, Redlands 2007

Good Morning everyone! This past weekend I was one of the artist for Art in the Park in Redlands, Ca. The event was very well attended and I was so lucky to be set up right across the street from one of the historical buildings in our town. The Smiley Library. How perfect was this! I could not help myself but to set up my easel and paint while working the show. I worked on the piece for a couple of hours on Sat. morning until I lost the light and finished it up the next morning. Enjoy! Terry

Art in the Park-Dancing Palms

On Sunday my Plein Air Group -PAAR- was asked to paint at Fairmount Park for Target Day Art in the Park. Joan Coffey, Louise Smith and I arrived and set up for the festivities. I was taken by the beautiful palms in abundance behind the Boat House bell tower and the 3 little dancing palms set in the rock bed garden in front. I thought it made for a lovely composition.

During the day we were interviewed and video taped by the Press Enterprise of Riverside and actually ended up on their website video. Joan was explaining the procedure and I was painting with my knife. It is a quick blurb but we did make it in. Here is the link: http://www.pe.com/video/index.html?nvid=141535&shu=1

Here is a photo of the painting I was working on and finished.
This next weekend I will be participating in the Redlands Art Association Art in the Park on Sat. and Sun. Until next time, enjoy the art! Terry

Flowers are in the air

Flowers are blooming and the inspiration for 4, 5 x 7 oil paintings done in plein air with a palate knife. I am working on a series of florals for my notecard collection. I think these will work really well. I was afraid with the cold winter we had, actual freezing temps and losing a lot of my garden, that my flowers would not be in abundance this Spring. Boy was I wrong. My flowers are blooming and the blooms are plentiful and huge. Enjoy the paintings. Comments are welcome. Terry
