"Rooftops from the Riverside Art Museum" 8 x 10 oil on canvas by Terry d. Chacon Yesterday the Plein Air Artists of Riverside were treated to a day of painting and a fantastic demo by Chuck Kovacic. http://www.chuckkovacicarts.com/Art/Index.asp Chuck came all the way out from San Fernando Valley on a very rainy morning to paint downtown Riverside, Ca. We met up at the Riverside Art Museum in hopes of finding a dry place to stand while we painted. We walked all around, showing Chuck some of our special places to paint, but ended up back at the Riverside Art Museum. After getting permission from the staff we were able to obtain access to the roof of RAM. There were lots of views to paint, but only limited space under cover. I have always enjoyed painting the Riverside First Congregational Church. Built in 1913 and a landmark for downtown Riverside. http://olmsted.riversideca.gov/historic/ppty_mtp.aspx?pky=6965 When I set up I wanted to make sure to fit it in. The rainy day was making everything very flat, but the distant silhouette of the steeple of the church was almost lit up on one side against the cloudy skies which became my focus of the painting making a nice back drop to the foreground. After the morning of painting we met up at the Mission Inn. Because of the rain they seated us inside the Presidential Lounge where we enjoyed a tasty lunch with margaritas. Great conversation about plein air, special times and getting to know our guest Chuck Kovacic. We then returned back to the museum for another painting session before gathering our belongings to set up for the demo by Chuck.
